Our History

By October 23, 2011No Comments

AgingParents.com grew out of the combined efforts of three individuals, Carolyn L. Rosenblatt, R. N., attorney, Dr. Mikol Davis, psychologist, and Bruce Tokars. It arose from a shared desire to help boomers meet the needs of their aging loved ones. All three are boomers themselves. Bruce Tokars had done pioneering work in bringing together national experts on the various aspect of caring for aging loved ones to produce a comprehensive DVD, The Family Survival Guide. Both Dr. Davis and Carolyn Rosenblatt, a husband and wife team, were working as consultants, helping boomers to address crisis situations and to do long term planning for aging loved ones.

mybride Because of the enormous needs associated with getting older, and the reluctance of many people to plan ahead until a crisis hits, we decided to combine forces to meet the needs of families, whether legal, health-related, or psychological/emotional. We do this by providing a comprehensive range of informational products and personalized consultations. These are available either locally, in person, or by telephone support.

AgingParents.com offers visitors free, critical information from experts, an opportunity to participate in our blog, and free podcasts, which convey a broad range of information from skilled professionals in the field of aging. In addition, unlike any other service, we provide an opportunity for visitors to log in and receive personalized, fee-for-service answers to their most pressing questions and support for persons in difficult situations.

Some of the areas in which we have helped people include questions about dementias and loss of decision-making ability, difficulty handling money, potential elder abuse, solving family conflicts, disputes over estates, determining the safest arrangement for an elder to live, providing community resources, both health related and in social services for elders, developing legal documents for families, such as durable power of attorney for finances and health care directives (“living will”), caregiver issues, disputes with care facilities, assessing mental capacity of elders suspected of having limitations in their function, driving issues, end of life planning and issues among families concerning this, and many more. The company went through two name changes: first, Senior Care and Services, then HelpWithElders.com.

In 2008, after completing her first book, The Boomer’s Guide to Aging Parents, Carolyn CLR_RNdecided to expand. She and Mikol reached out to a colleague with significant technical skill in audio and video production, Bruce Tokars.

He and his former partners had produced a comprehensive DVD, Aging Parents: The Family Survival Guide. Putting both their entities together, and adopting the name AgingParents.com gave all three of the principals an opportunity to use their varied skills to get the best information to boomers and families of aging parents. Bruce began work on producing videos, podcasts and the audio version of Carolyn’s book, divided into a 9 volume set of minibooks.

AgingParents.com is proud to now offer a wide range of top quality informational products to the public in video, free podcast, downloadable PDF and print formats. AgingParents.com also continues to provide direct, one-on-one consultations, by telephone or in person to families in crisis, or those who just need some expert input to help with problem solving. We also offer the team approach of a nurse-lawyer and psychologist to help families and others in conflict with dispute resolution assistance. We handle family meetings, joint telephone conferences, and individual advice, with a combined total of over 70 years of professional experience.oldCouple
