Something Inspiring That Really Touched Me

Hi –
It’s Mikol here, hope you are doing well.
Today I wanted to share with you something inspiring that really touched me.

We returned recently from San Diego, where we were “support team” for our beautiful daughter, Jessica, who was running her first marathon, a fundraiser for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.

JERDMarathon

Carolyn and I cheered her on and even got to run alongside her for the last 6.2 miles. It was an exciting experience watching her finish and we are so proud of her! Just seeing her finish was an inspiration, but the most inspirational thing we saw was something that really took us by surprise.

Along the path we saw a triple amputee doing the marathon. He had a prosthetic leg, and two prosthetic arms, plugging along the path. We stopped to thank him for being an inspiration. And he told us, “I’m very blessed” with a smile on his face.

I thought about him for a long time afterwards. I’m sure he was tired, as everyone at that moment was past the 20 mile mark. What struck me the most was his attitude of gratitude. Something we can all work on in dealing with our aging parents. I’m sure it’s what kept him going. And I’m sure, with the right direction, it will keep you going too.

The work of caring for an aging parent makes you blessed! And adopting an attitude of gratitude will make your life and the life of your aging parent’s easier and more enjoyable.

All the best,
Dr. Mikol
