Nurse-attorney Carolyn L. Rosenblatt’s Advice on Handling Money for Aging Parents is Featured on Gilbert Guide, a Leading Source on Senior Care

Date: Monday, June 1, 2009 Contact: Carolyn Rosenblatt, R.N., Attorney/Dr. Mikol Davis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nurse-turned-lawyer, Carolyn L. Rosenblatt’s expertise on the use of financial protection for aging parents is currently featured on the Gilbert Guide, a leading Internet source on senior care issues.

Rosenblatt, of San Rafael, Calif., has spent a decade as a registered nurse and 30 years as an attorney and litigator , now counseling families on aging issues in collaboration with her psychologist husband, Dr. Mikol S. Davis.

For a growing number of families caring for aging parents, navigating the pros and cons of taking over handling an elderly parent’s money, or using the courts to take complete control over a parent can be daunting.

Rosenblatt leads family caregivers through the advantages and dangers of each option in the current Gilbert Guide issue, www.gilbertguide.com. The article is adapted from her book, “The Boomer’s Guide to Aging Parents.” Financial control questions are also answered in one of its nine individual mini-books, geared to specific topic areas and available separately.

She is also available as a source for reporters with questions on stories about coping with the needs of aging parents.

Rosenblatt and Davis provide collaborative counseling for families, through www.AgingParents.com, on a variety of aging issues, from navigating the health care bureaucracy, convincing an aging driver to give up the car keys, finding home health care aides and to resolving family disputes over a parent’s care.

“The culture of being independent and the ingrained habits of not asking for help can truly be a source of conflict with their children when Mom and Dad begin to lose the ability to care for themselves,” Rosenblatt said. “Planning in advance and having the necessary, though difficult, conversations can do much to reduce conflict,” she said.
