Consulting Information

We consult with you, your loved ones, your elders, aging parents, caregivers and their families, providing:

  • Professional advice for the overly burdened and stressed-out caregiver.
  • Help with decisions about your aging parent’s funds, housing, increasing needs and how to manage them.
  • Help with legal forms, contracts, powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives and other elder law issues.
  • Help with end of life issues, grief and loss.
  • Family meetings to sort out your conflicts about your elder loved one.
  • Legal information and referrals to reputable attorneys and free sources of information.
  • Information about use of elder’s funds, elder abuse and elder’s rights.
  • Assistance with problems in elderly care, assisted living facilities, with caregivers, or in hospitals.
  • Psychological assessments, capacity evaluations, treatment for depression, anxiety and behavior problems.
  • Help with your depression as well as that of aging parents, and questions about medications for depression.
  • Home visits as appropriate

Here are some examples of families we’ve helped:

  • A conflict arose among sibling concerning the care of both parents with Alzheimer’s disease. We conducted a family meeting, which led to agreements and a plan of action. A potential court action was avoided.
  • A family member could not decide whether to sell the San Francisco Bay area family home, as the elder parent was no longer able to live there. We helped the individual through the process of deciding whether selling was appropriate and what his father needed. He was able to act on the help he received.
  • A caregiver agency was in conflict with the family member who hired the caregiver for her elder parent. Legal action was threatened. We conducted a mediation and the matter was settled. A lawsuit was avoided.
  • A family member was concerned about a sibling, who had removed the elder from a nursing home, taken the elder’s credit card and was running up bills for himself. We offered immediate advice for stopping the abuse. The elder was protected.
  • A daughter could not decide whether her father was legally capable of making decisions about his trust, or spending money. We provided a capacity evaluation to assist him, his daughter and his estate planning attorney to complete updating his trust.
  • There was a dispute between siblings about whether their father needed to have a (conservatorship) guardianship. We conducted a meeting with them, also called a mediation, in which all the pros and cons were discussed. The siblings were able to come to an agreement, and further fighting was avoided.
